Thousands of Years Old
Reflexology is an ancient healing art, which has been used by the Chinese, Indians, Russians, Egyptians and Africans for thousands of years. It is a form of treatment which is natural, safe and non-invasive, balancing the mind, body and spirit it is holistic in nature.
The treatment involves stimulating the reflex areas of the feet or hands which correspond to parts of the body by means of massage and applied pressure. Reflexology is an excellent way to activate the natural healing powers of the body; it helps to rebalance the energy flow and may be used as a preventative.
What Does Reflexology Treatment Involve?
Reflexology treatments usually take up to an hour, and usually about six weekly sessions are recommended for optimum results. A detailed case history will be taken on your first visit. You will be asked to remove your shoes and socks and lie on a treatment couch.
The treatment involves light, but firm, compression massage to the feet . It is possible that there will be quite a dramatic reaction to the first treatment in various forms such as increased bowel movements, cold type symptoms or skin problems.
– These are healing reactions, a sign that the treatment has encouraged the release of harmful toxins from the body.
During treatment some areas of the foot may feel a little tender and these will correlate with the problem areas in the body. You will find that reflexology is typically a pleasant, relaxing and rejuvenating therapy. Don’t worry if you have ticklish feet, the treatment is very precise and quite firm.
Relaxing music, burning essential oils or light scented candles are used adding to the feeling of total relaxation so that you can let go of your worries for the duration of the treatment.
How will i feel after a reflexology treatment?
After one or two treatments your body may respond in a very definite way.
Most clients feel a sense of well being and relaxation and some feel inspired and full of energy.
Sometimes clients feel tired and tearful, but this is completely normal. It is the body’s way of letting go of negative feelings and emotions so that healing can begin. It is very important to give this information to me after each treatment as it shows how your body is responding to the treatments.
This will help me to tailor a treatment plan to your individual needs. At the end of the treatment i will discuss with you any imbalances i detect and give advice on any life style changes and after care that may compliment the treatment.
